CD, DVD & Blu-ray Disc Rapair

What is CD/DVD resurfacing?

Sometimes a disc can get so scratched that it will no longer read correctly. Resurfacing is a process in which scratches are removed from a disc, making the disc readable once again.

What kind of disc can be resurfaced?

Please check repair services page for available CD Resurfacing Services

eStarland can resurface all kinds of movie, music and game discs including the following:

CD, DVD, CD-Rom, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RW, PSONE, PS2, PS3, PS4, GameCube, Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii, Wii U, Dreamcast, Sega Saturn, Sega CD, PC games and more!

How does disc resurfacing work?

Data stored on CDs, DVDs, and similar media are actually contained on the upper layers of the disc, directly below the label. The bottom layers of the disc serve to protect this data. Sometimes the bottom of the disc will be so scratched that the laser contained in the player or game system cannot read the data on the upper layers. In disc resurfacing, the damaged areas in the disc’s bottom layer are shaved down. The disc is then buffed and polished, restoring it to a readable surface. This is a safe process, because it does not affect the data present on the disc.

Can all discs be repaired?

There are limits to the extent of damage that can be repaired through resurfacing. We cannot repair discs with the following kinds of damage:

Cracks: discs with cracks cannot be repaired

Holes: discs with holes cannot be repaired (to check for holes, hold the disc up to a light and see if any light shines through)

Label side damage: Discs with extensive damage to the top, label side of the disc cannot be repaired. Disc resurfacing only repairs the bottom, play side of the disc. The data on a disc is actually stored just below the label. If this data is damaged it cannot be recovered.
