When a disc becomes so scratched that it cannot be read properly, resurfacing can help. This process removes scratches from the disc, restoring its readability.
eStarland offers professional disc resurfacing services to restore scratched movie, music, and game discs, making them readable again. We support a wide range of formats, including:
• CD formats
• DVD formats
• Blu-Ray formats
For detailed information, pricing, and instructions, visit the eStarland Repair Services page.
Data stored on CDs, DVDs, and similar media are actually contained on the upper layers of the disc, directly below the label. The bottom layers of the disc serve to protect this data. Sometimes the bottom of the disc will be so scratched that the laser contained in the player or game system cannot read the data on the upper layers. In disc resurfacing, the damaged areas in the disc’s bottom layer are shaved down. The disc is then buffed and polished, restoring it to a readable surface. This is a safe process, because it does not affect the data present on the disc.
Disc resurfacing has limits and it cannot repair certain types of damage, including:
Cracks: Discs with any cracks cannot be repaired.
Holes: Discs with holes, which can be identified by holding the disc up to a source of light and checking for any light passing through, cannot be repaired.
Label-side Damage: Extensive damage to the label side of the disk is irreparable. Resurfacing only addresses the bottom side, as the data is stored just beneath the label. If this layer of data is damaged, it cannot be recovered.
