Legacy of the Intellivision

Atari's first real competitor, the Intellivision was released nationwide in 1980. Similar to the Video Game Wars of the 90s, both Atari and Intellivision battled aggressively for home console dominance.

As home consoles became more popular in the early 80s, Intellivision started to release lots of interesting accessories like the Intellivoice and the Keyboard, which effectively turned the system into a very early home computer.

While the Intellivision's games look dated today, when released they were considered exceptional. Titles like Bump N Jump, Q*bert, Donkey Kong Jr., and Astrosmash were smash hits when released.

Though one of the first victims of the Video Game Crash of 1983, Intellivision still lives on today as it is a very affordable system to collect for and through a variety of rereleases such as the Intellivision Flashback Console.
