Better known as the Genesis in North America, the Mega Drive was Sega's third console which was released in Japan on October 29, 1988. While most Americans who grew up in the 90's remember the "console wars" between the Sega Genesis and the Super Nintendo and regard the Genesis as a classic console, the Mega Drive actually did not achieve much success in Japan due to competing against the Super Famicom and the PC Engine.
