As the 16th game in the Atelier series, series fans have a good idea what to expect with Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea. Players will combine items through the alchemy system and take part in turn-based battles. Where this PlayStation 3 version differs from its predecessors is in subtle ways that long-time fans of the series, as well as newcomers, will appreciate. The fields are now much bigger, letting players gather more items and reducing the amount of trips necessary to collect a particular item. Also new is the Life Task System, which enables players to decide which quests they want to accomplish and in what order. Since not every task in a particular chapter is required to move forward with the story, players can choose the tasks that suit their particular play style.
