The sixth and final system in the Nintendo 3DS line, the New 2DS XL brought back the "clamshell" design of the 3DS/New 3DS systems, which was a major complaint critics noted about the original 2DS' design. This made the 2DS XL a more stripped down version of the New Nintendo 3DS XL system, though there were criticisms about its display, sound quality and battery life. Production of New 2DS XL models were officially discontinued on September 17, 2020, putting the 3DS' legacy to an end after nine years.
