Release Date: 07/01/1991
In 1989, Atari's first and only portable video game bout, the Lynx, took off. Just months after the original Game Boy, the screen was surprisingly in full color as the first handheld console with LCD display. The system was more technologically advanced, with a price. It was much more expensive and lasted a lot shorter on battery, thus falling to the mighty Game Boy, failing to sell more than 2 million in total to the Game Boy's more than 20 million at-the-time. The Lynx II, a revised unit with smaller size and better battery life, was released in 1991.
